The Hellenistic kingdoms were lands of oppurtunity for Greek architects. New cities were being founded and old ones rebuilt. The kings hired Greek sculptors to put their work everywhere. Hellenistic leaders also admired talented writers. Generous sums of money were spent supporting writers' works. Athens remained the center of Greek theatre. A poet, Theocritus, wrote short poems about the beauty of nature.
Greek Culture Spreads
This is when Hellenistic cities became centers of learning and culture. During the Hellenistic Era, philosophers, scientists, poets, and writers flocked to the new Greek cities in southwest Asia and Egypt, especially Alexandria.
